david_killick
What update from Photokina? Must be something new and concrete soon. Any exciting tidbits or scoops? I do hear that Leica is setting up its own forum. Would this be worth contributing to? Will Leica act on the wishes of its loyal fans? Please tell! michael_kastner
David, what do you mean by Leica setting up its own forum? They already have two (one in English and one in German). I hope you mean something else!

michael_bender
The most exciting - Sigma foveon-based camera is to be announced as going to the shops on October, at $1800 body.
dave_yoder3
What is a Sigma foveon camera?
dave_yoder3
I mean, are you saying there will be a Sigma digital camera with an R mount? Is that for real or a joke? thanks dave
alfie wang
I think that he's referring to the missing Sigma SD-9 digital camera with the Foveon chip... with Sigma mount. Apparently they better have more than 3 MP on the chip because with the Foveon that would be 9 MP in full res... and now that Canon has the 11 MP I would think Sigma would have done at least 4 MP in lieu of it. The price sounds competitive against Canon D60 and Nikon D100. A little bit less. One would hope for better images although Sigma has some duddy lenses. ellis_vener_photography
Kodak is announcing a 14Mp camera for around $4000, based on the thought is that the front end will probably be based around a Nikon lens mount.<P>Leica has it's own internet forum but having visited it a couple of times, I've come to the conclusion that this forum is a lot more interesting and a lot less self congratulatory than theirs. michael_kastner
Yes, their forums were more congratulatory than photo.net here, but worst of all, there were too many ****heads there, especially in the English department. That's why I never went back since more than one year ago Their new forum is announced there as follows: "Starting on the 25th of September 2002, a new forum with additional functions is at your disposal. From the 7th of October 2002 you will also have the possibility of entering your own photos in the forum." I'll at least try it on for size, but I'll bet you already that they'll never surpass Tony's club here.
michael_bender
Talking about Leica conservatism - the technology to implement forums has been around for ages in Internet terms; it's simple, truly is to implement one - so the announcement is a classic exercise in the genre of literary irony. ;)))))
