blaine_franger
I cannot seem to find a good photo browsing (not editing!) program for Mac. I need something that will display thumbnails of small JPEG files quickly. Windows XP has a great program that comes pre-installed (can't remember what it's called) that lets you browse photos quickly . I haven't found a program for Mac (OSX or 9) that will do this as well as the Windows program. Pictureviewer, Photoshop, Canon Imagebrowser, and Preview are all way to slow to view large numbers of small JPEG files. Does anyone know of a program that will work for this? eric_perlberg
There are several and iView Media Pro is the standard which does this and a lot more, and of course Apple's own iPhoto which you probably have on your Mac already if its been built within the past few years. It's certainly as robust as your Windows Picture Viewer program. There's lots in the archives on this.
david_f._stein
I would look at the Browser in Graphic Converter (www.lemkesoft.com) and a version of iView Media used to be included in Toast Titanium. I think the speed of draw depends on whether a preview was ever created for the image file. I actually think the Browser in Photoshop is pretty good and it seems to keep getting better as the program moves along. Besides everything else it can do, Graphic Converter boots quickly. GOOD LUCK
b. edward sandifer
Photo Mechanic is an excellent program for browsing, which also allows batch name changing, EXIF data modification, copyright stamp, etc. It's not cheap, but is the one program I use constantly. ofey_kalakar
OSX includes iPhoto. You can access the original full res image by double clicking on the thumbnail. You can also use it to import images from your digital camera or scanned images or folders etc. The other option is Extensis Portfolio which is very good database program. It's available for both classic Mac and OSX.
continuity
Graphics Converter. Once it has previews of all the images, it's pretty fast. It comes installed on every new Mac these days. There's also the built in browser of Photoshop CS...
ottocrat
Have you upgraded to iPhoto 4? It's much faster than iPhoto 3 and I can't think of a better way to browse all your photos quickly and smoothly. The new batch editing feature is great for renaming files, I can now ditch the copy of ACDSee sitting on my hard drive.
