joshwand
Does anyone know of any good blogs on the subject of the business side of photography? It seems to me there have gotta be some pros out there who blog, and I'd sure be interested to hear their ruminations on things. (The thought occurred to me as I was browsing some of the articles at 1portauthority.com, Selina Oppenheim's site, while also reading sample chapters of Tom Zimberoff's book.) I suppose this could apply equally to other good biz resources on the net, such as the PDN forums, APANet mailing list, etc. I'm approaching the end of school and finding myself doing more jobs and trying to gather the zeitgeist of the biz I'm about to join. Thanks, as always, --Josh
jerry s
For the benefit of those who may not know, a blog is a weB LOG - very much like an online diary.
._._z
trying to gather the zeitgeist of the biz I'm about to join.

Which business are you about to join? PJ? Fashion? Events? Commercial? Portraits? Architectural? There's not a single blog that covers everything, partly because there are hardly any photographers who do everyting ... and write about it. joshwand
Point taken. But there are certain things which apply across most disciplines-- dealing with clients, suppliers, agents; pricing, the economy, falling day-rates, etc. My particular interests lie in architecture/interiors and editorial miscellanea, FWIW. ._._z
Can't help you, sorry. I know of some PJ and streetphoto blogs that describe the respective businesses but there's not any real crossover.
alastairjamieson
Josh, Don't know of any blogs as such, but there are certainly newsgroups for photographers of all kinds, including the business side of things. Have a rummage around Yahoo Groups and other similar sites and see what suits you best. BTW [ Z ; I, and maybe other readers too, would be interested to know where to find the PJ and other blogs you mention, if you wouldn't mind sharing them. Thanks. gcoates
Dave Beckerman has a photography blog. He's a street photographer in New York City. His blog covers a lot of his business decisions, including quite a bit of detail about his use of inkjet printers. His work is excellent, and his blog is interested. Give it a try. belledeux diana
.[.Z, if you have a second or two...could you post those here, please?
I suppose I could be clever enough to Google them, but you might have some really good sites at hand.
Thanks
._._z
Haven't been back to this thread for a while. Off the top of my head (I'm not at my main computer) you could take a look at Mark Hancock's weblog. He's been a photojournalist with the Dallas morning news for a few years, and his blog centers on his job, and on the PJ biz in general:
http://markhancock.blogspot.com/
