...of an Olympus 35RC. So many people here have raved about this camera, they

weren't wrong. I got mine on fleaBay, very cheap, and it arrived looking

rather unlikely in a worn case with light mould and raggedy light seals, I

cleaned it up and replaced the seals (courtesy of Jon Goodman again) and have

now run 4 or 5 rolls through it. I'm delighted - so many features in such a

small box, and that lens is wonderful. My new favourite camera.

Very nice. I agree, this is becoming a favorite of mine too.

One thing I noticed, which you should be aware of if you haven't already experienced it, is that when the auto exposure goes out of range high or low, it always puts the needle over to the left, and the first time it did that on a very bright day I thought the battery or meter had gone dead.

Another tip, if the meter acts funny, just turn the camera off for a few seconds and then back on. Mine sometimes acts weird. If it comes with the original strap you might want to ditch it, the plastic parts holding the strap to the camera crumbled on mine. I replaced it with rings from an old broken OM body I had laying around... and put a nice wide strap with swivels on it... much more comfy!

Ive been waiting to see your photos A E, and worth it! The shot in the salon is great... looks like it could have been taken when the camera was new! I have a hard time putting mine down... its just too damn easy to take great photos with!

I got mine after I already had an XA and I thought maybe it would be a bad investment... but the two cameras have such a different look to the images and handle so differently, they really dont overlap too much, except for being great compact cameras! Some of the best photos Ive taken this year came out of my 35RC... I even shot at a wedding and my friends all thought I had shot with some pro camera! ha! I believe it was the guy at cameraquest.com who said he wanted to paint his black and have Leica inscribed on the top just to mess with people. :)

Bah! This just makes me more impatient - my 35RC, bought on eBay a few weeks ago "as-is", is still at the local repair shop - they're backed up but I was told the other day it's "on the bench" - I hope that means it will be ready soon. I'm very hopeful as the repair guy is an Olympus specialist and apparently has been doing it for a long time...

It will, however, have to compete with the Konica Auto S2 I also got recently for the title of "new favourite camera" - the lens on the Konica is really, really sharp and the viewfinder is big and bright, and has parallax correction lines.

And the FED-2 I was gifted with that I've been practicing "sunny 16" with...

So many cameras, so little time :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I haven't uploaded a lot of images here, so the positive feedback is very cheering. I feel much of the credit must be given to that Zuiko lens, it really is pin-sharp. There's such a lot to like about this camera. The viewfinder is excellent, and I love that fact that it displays both shutter speed and aperture, and the fact that the automatic aperture setting can be overridden. Lovely build quality overall, too.

Matthew, I had the same experience with the aperture needle on a bright day, I knew it would go into the red if there wasn't enough light but it hadn't occurred to me it might do the same with too much. I was on a beach, in the rain, with fast film, and spent 15 minutes fretting that rainwater had screwed up the mechanics before I realised what it was trying to tell me!

Glenn, the Konica S2 is the other camera I keep hearing about that sounds like it competes with this one. It's definitely on my list, alongside several others... hope you'll post some sample pictures soon.

As an aside... I used to have a nice, manageable camera habit before I started hanging out here. Soviet rangefinders; that's it. Now I find I have a Zeiss Nettar, a Braun Paxette, an Olympus 35RC, 2 Minolta Hi-Matics and a shopping list as long as my arm. Behold the photo.net effect :)

I copy that.

I fell in love with 6x9 folders after discovering this forum. No regrets, got about 20 of 'em....you want a vintage feel to your photographs? Shoot Tri-X 320 with your 6x9 wide open and then contact print as a Kallitype or Platinum. Fantastic!

I also discovered the 124G and the 7s II here...gems...
