Another 5D Banding

So, I read before about the 5D banding issue and pretty much dismissed it as

pixel peeping. I am testing my 1DmkII against a new 5D and low and behold...

they weren't kidding about the banding. Most shots with the 5D are SO CLEAN but

when I mounted my 70-200IS and shot some outside (ISO100, AV mode @ 2.8, shutter

speeds was 800, RAW converted in ACR at default settings)... I got the following

pictures. I mounted a 35mm f/1.4 and shot a flower and again... noiseless

background.

I lost track of the 5D Banding threads, was there ever a fix? Is there something

to do or is this it? This might be a deal breaker (amongst some other

annoyances). Still love the size of this camera though.

(the another annoyances are the dust in the prism... I actually figured out how

to clean it myself but hope that I won't be doing this all the time, the 9

points AF probably were nice on the small frame of the 20D but on a full

frame... they are spaced so far apart, and no ISO in LCD or viewfinder without

pressing the button)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.<div>00Ib7N-33212984.jpg.8eb6ac34f2d5c04aa4b46416b89499ee.jpg</div>

Have you tried converting the files in DPP instead. I've found ACR sometimes produces

artifacts whereas DPP is clean.

As for dust, you should try cleaning the mirrorbox. Many Canon DSLRs--especially some

5D--shipped with plenty of "factory installed dust" in the mirror box. As you use the

camera the dust works its way onto the focusing screen, SI plate, prism and CMOS. Some

guys immediately clean the mirrorbox of new DSLRs and report nearly zero VF and CMOS

dust problems thereafter. An Pec pad on spattula with sensor cleaning solution seems to

be the easiest method of mirrorbox cleaning.

Incidentally I haven't had any dust problems on VF or CMOS after 7 months.

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.

What the? What banding issues are you talking about?

Sorry dude, but I don't see any banding issues with those photos.

Also, default settings for ACR is auto for everything which means if you underexposed the photo in the beginning, it would kickup the exposure and you may find lots of artifacts due to that reason. I just can't picture that camera producing banding on a well exposed ISO100 photo.

when I say default, I mean all settings set to 0 or whatever their non auto compensated settings are.

the pictures are pretty close to correct exposure. banding has been reported as horizontal bands of noise at high iso's particuarily when using in ai mode.
