Age of Canon F-1 by serial number

The date code is the most accurate and easiest way, however you can at least get an estimate of age by comparing the serial number to those with known date codes.

This was made possible by a gentleman who spent years collecting thousands of serial numbers for F-1s, and very generously shared his data with me when I wanted to undertake a similar project of my own.

For example, the date code is no longer present on my F-1N. The serial number, though, of 274746 places its production in or around 1988.

James, if you will provide your serial number, I will see what I can find with regard to the date it was made. If you have the date code, though, as Mark mentions, it's far easier.

Thank you. I did a search of photo.net and the web before posting my question here. A further exhaustive search got me this:<P>

<a href=http://canon.cavey.org/html/canon_date_codes.php>http://canon.cavey.org/html/canon_date_codes.php</a><P>

According to that (and confirmed by me) our own beloved Bob Atkins has the date codes on his web site. Entering "date codes" in his search box brings it up. My problem in my searches was not using the term "date codes".<P>

Ben, thank you but I have what I need now.
