morty_sklar
Hello. The AE lock on the Nikon FM3A is awkward to use because you have to put your finger between your face and the viewer--which makes it difficult to frame your picture as accurately as you'd like because you can't get your eye as close to the viewer as when you don't use the AE lock. How have people dealt with this? Thanks.
nom
Of course it is awkward! Nobody is perfect though... She's a great lovely little camera :O)
steve_levine
Attach an MD12 to the beast and try reaching the DOF preview!
morty_sklar
Thanks, Steve, but wht is an MD12 and a DOF preview? --Morty Sklar
steve_levine
An MD 12 is the motordrive that fits your camera & all the other FM/FE series cameras.A "DOF"=depth of field preview. This is the little lever next your lens that stops your lens down. When an MD 12 is attached to any FM/FE series camera the DOF lever is damn near impossible to reach! In fact with a gloved hand (in the cold)it is impossible to reach!Hope this helps. david_h._hartman
Im left eyed and wear glasses so I bought a pair of Flexon glasses frames by Marchon. I turn the camera toward the left a little and put my thumb on the bridge of my nose and behind the film advance lever then just mash the camera into my face. Its not as bad as it might sound. I dont even notice it. The FE2 has its exposure lock on the front not the back so I cant comment other than I find manual exposure easier to use than aperture preferred so I mostly ignore it. I own FE2(s) not an FM3a but they are so similar Im sure Id love the FM3a. Hope this helps,
patrick_davies1
Rather than using the AE lock, I just switch to manual mode.
