thanz
anyone have a good starting dev. time for Acros sheet film in Rodinal, the film was rated 100 and I use trays for developing. I like Rodinal with Acros in 120 and woud like to try it with 4x5. thanks!
rich815
I have no experience in LF so please excuse this question if it seems stupid: why would you not use your successful 120 times for Acros and Rodinal as a start time? Would seem as good as any, perhaps better for what you're looking for, no?
chris_waller
Using the 1:50 dilution at 20 C I'd suggest 10.5 minutes for condenser head or 12 minutes for diffuser head.
ronald_moravec1
I have found the same times for different formats all are the same time provided the temp and agitation is the same. I have put 35mm on a lifting rod and developed in a deep tank and the times are the same as sheet film in the same tank at the same time. I also have done 4x5 in a tray using rodinal and the times were the same as 35mm in a small 250 cc tank. Agitation timing and duration must be the same. Not necessarily the aditation movement which will not be the same between sheet and roll film.
larrydressler
Todd I thought I was the only person on earth who thought Acros looked great in Rodinal. As mentioned use your times for 120 or 35mm and go from there... If you do switch to a hanger tank you may need to adjust because in a tray I think we all tend to over adjatate. randall ellis
I tend to cut development times when I tray develop because of the constant agitation. With hangers, the times seem to be universal since hangers are agitated at a similar interval to that of tanks. - Randy
thanz
thanks all! I also tend to reduce times for tray developing sheet film beacause I use constant agitation, it's kinda hard to invert the trays without making a little mess ;) Todd
rich815
Ah! The tray development/agitation difference makes perfect sense. Thanks! Larry, I too love Acros in Rodinal. Not the most grain-free look but if I wanted grain-free I'd shoot digital (one reason I'm not a huge fan of Tmax 100 for example, just looks too smooth and digital to me oftentimes). I've souped Acros in a number of developers (Xtol, HC-110, Microdol, D-76) but somehow the crispness and tonal rendition from the Rodinal is particularly pleasing (I'd say with Microdol 1:3 coming in second perhaps). jordan_w.
Everyone should have a look at Todd's site... awesome examples of MF Acros in Rodinal. I wish Acros wasn't so expensive here.
jtk
I've been pleased with Acros/RO9 1:50 in 35mm...it may be the sharpest-looking combination I've ever used in 35. Canon 100 3.5 Leica mount, printed on 11X17 with MIS UT7/2200 looks frighteningly like 6X7.

profhlynnjones
Continuous agitation, Drum or Tray, reduce developing time by 15% to 20% Lynn
