gabriel_hasser
I'm buying a Really Right Stuff BH-40, and one of the main cameras I am going to be using on it is my Bronica ETRSi. However, they are pointing me to a QR plate that is for collared lenses. I'd really like a plate that's actually designed for my camera, especially if I'm buying a Bronica-specific plate. Can you guys recommend a more suitable Arca Swiss QR plate?
kparratt
Sinar have some plates to hold MF camera bodies, but not sure if Arca Swiss do. A short question in email will result in a reasonably prompt reply.
However, attaching a camera body is not the best way to go for most view camera work. Because the film plane is situated deep inside the body, which restricts the amount of camera movement useable. Putting it another way, it is a waste of Arca Swiss's brilliant design. They have been leaders in the design of rear standards that provide the best placement of the film plane, for optimum utilization of camera movements.
The adapter plates are not cheap because they are made in small numbers. That said, a roll-film back on quick-slide adapter is the ideal equipment for medium format on view camera. The quick slide adapters for film magazines rarely appear on the used market. But they are made by 3rd party companies for digital backs, of all sorts and for a variety of view cameras including Arca Swiss. Here is one of them.
So, short of a quick-slide adapter, which is the next most convenient after SLR, a simple roll film adapter is the way to go. Again, ask Arca Swiss for a direct, informative answer. You may simply have to use something other than Bronica components with the Arca Swiss. The same issue for me with Hasselblad and Linhof. I saved a lot of stuffing around in the "Adapter dream world" when I bit the bullet and bought a Linhof film magazine, then another, then another ...
This is one made for Toyo
Precision Camera Works
Cheers, Kevin
