90mm or 105mm for GX617? Which is better glass?

I'm about to buy a Fuji GX617 system with 3 lenses, the 300mm, 180mm and

either the 105mm or the 90mm. I'm on the fence about which might be better,

90 or 105, for me to use as they are fairly close in image angle, but I have no

idea if one is a better lens than the other optically.

Anyone experienced with these lenses? Are there any MTF charts around for

them. Thanks

You are one lucky man. I could only afford a G617 with the 105.

The 105 has served me very well, even though the closest you

can get to an object is 9ft @ f45. I've gotten closer but it's not to

pretty. The 105 is TACK SHARP! I've blown my scans up to six

feet and the image remains razor sharp and grain free (Velia50).

Enjoy your new purchase, I'm green with envy :-)

p.s. - great site and amazing work. Can't wait to see what you do

with your new set up. You are a natural at capturing natures

moods.

Ross, thanks for the info and for the kind words. I'm leaning towards the

105mm. I just got the GX and the 300mm, it's big but light and the whole

system will fit nicely into a back pack.

I also took a look at your web site. Lovely, and some excellent examples of

quality panoramic work. Last year I did a few trips in your neck of the woods,

a really beautiful area. I'll be posting new images from there on my web site

very soon.

I used both Linhof 90mm and Fuji 105mm in the past and felt the

90mm was better for my viewpoint, sort of similar to 24mm in

35mm terms. One thing to be aware of is the optimmum f stop

for the Fuji 105mm is around f16 (from Fuji) after that I found the

edges too soft (for my liking) the Linhof was OK up to f22-32

even though f64 was available...Also Fuji has discontinued the

GX617 they do not have the best of reps for keeping parts for

long periods.

Brian try searching the Fuji Rangefinder section of photo.net

maybe there's more info on the Fuji Rangerfinder pages. I'm not

sure where or why..it's what I read in the recent past...RW started

discounting Fuji's straight away. As I don't shoot pans anymore

I'm not tuned into latest info.
