85mm 1.2 II makes a little noise while focusing

<p>I just bought it this 85mm 1.2 II a few months used and it makes a very slight whirring sound while focusing. Any 85mm II user, please let me know if it is okay.<br>

<p>I have the 85 1.2 ver 2 and it's pretty quiet. I would think Canon would fix this under warranty despite the fact you purchased used.</p>

<p>Unlike other EF lens the EF85/.2 uses a motor to focus. The motor is controlled by the focus ring. Some moter noise are normal during focus. This motor however does not scream.</p>

Actually, I have just shifted from Nikon to Canon for the sake of primes - 35mm, 85mm and 135mm. <br>

With Nikon, I used mostly zooms barring 50mm 1.4G. I am finding that Canon primes are a different experience altogether.</p>

<p>The copy I use makes normal sound during focusing (AF and MF). In this lens even in manual focus mode the focusing motor works (electronic manual focus).</p>

<p>Mine makes a slight whirring sound also, I think yours is normal. The autofocus motor has got a lot of glass to move!</p>

<p>It's probably ok. Mine makes some whirring noise with the AF and the focus feels looser than other lenses, but it always works.</p>
