80-400 VR Locking Shutter Release on N/F80

My 80-400 VR lens on my F80 occasionally does this. I always use the

lens with VR mode activated (with half press). For the first few

shots camera works ok, then shutter release stops responding;

autofocus (with the thumb button in the back) works, and lcds stay

alive. Camera does not give warning for low power and replacement of

the batteries doesn't solve it. Switching off the camera for about 10

minutes makes the release start responging again.

Did anybody else experienced this? I am curious as to whether is this

a common problem; or if a power booster would solve it. Thanks.

I have a N80 and the 80-400VR lens and have never had that problem. I am not certain a power booster would solve the problem either. I would go down to my somewhat local Nikon dealer (or friend) and ask to see one of their F80's. Mount your 80-400 on it and see if it still has the same problem.

Good Luck,

Carl

The 80-400 VR uses less power if you select the mode that doesn't stabilize the viewfinder image. Have you tried that VR mode? I've seen some strange behavior on an F100 without the MB-15 battery pack in full VR mode with continuous AF setup to prevent shutter release if focus isn't achieved.
