rdm
I just purchased a Polaroid 150 Land camera and its on i way here. I was intending on converting it to takenegatives. I know there is plenty out there about converting these to a 4x4 shooter which i like the idea of. Ialready have a model 80 that i converted to take 120 roll film and i think the convenience and ease of changingthe film in it to readily available film; so i thought about making this a 120 panorama shooter like some otherson here have. On the other hand i like to get as much image area as possible without a hassle. So then i startedto wonder why not try rolling 70mm film onto spools to put in the camera. i have done that for my 116 cameras buti only have 2 116 spools and ones in the camera being used at the moment. I will not be getting an empty Polaroidfilm spool with the camera but i have seen pictures of them and wonder if anyone has any, and if i can roll 70mmfilm onto them where can i get some? does any one have any laying around they might like to donate or sellcheaply? Has anyone tried this 70mm roll film conversion?
larrydressler
Freestyle sells Efke 100 in 70mmx 100 foot rolls for about $150.00 http://www.freestylephoto.biz/191170-Fotokemika-Efke-R100-iso-100-70mm-x-100-ft.-roll-non-perf. Also a thought is to adapt a Sheet film holder to it.. may be cheaper to use may not. Efke is great film I like it in Rodinal 1-50 and 1-
rdm
well yea i did mention i was thinking of making it a 4x5 camera. I thought that implied a sheet film camera,. my bad i guess i should know what happens when i AssUme ..lol. But yes that was the initial thought however that would make the camera much heavier and also finding the parts to do so , not to mention lugging around the sheet film holders. I figured with Roll film it would be lighter and easier to load and unload and not cumbersome to carry around extra rolls of film when out in the field, so thank you for the source. patrick j dempsey
Dan, the Polaroid roll-film came in two separate spools, one on each side of the camera. If I recall correctly, the two spools are slightly different sizes. I bet Razzledog would have a box full of those things.
rdm
yea i emailed him and have not gotten a response. Oh well maybe ill make my own spool from a wooden dowel some glue and washers, with the help of a Dremel for the slot
patrick j dempsey
I'm a bit late, but as I recall, both spools didn't have slots, but one had tabs sticking out in the middle and was very very thin... I'm guessing this was the "print side" with chemicals and the other side was for the thinner "negative".
rdm
well it doesn't matter anyway , since i couldn't get hold of those spools to try i decided to make my own. i had a choice to either make my own or make the camera take stock 616 spools, and since those are not easy to come by and expensive i decided to make my own since i have the room. the only problem i am having is making the backing paper. if i was to use black construction paper i cant find anything longer Thain 34inches. oh well. larrydressler
I got my backing paper from an old roll of 616 I found on ebay It is holding up well. You may try a print shop in your area and see what they have for scraps that you can use.

rdm
<p>Well..Cant find any real long paper so, I'm just going to use some black 32" long construction paper i found at the art store. I gues i will just have a bunch of short rolls of film is all. Think i will make my spools from Woden dowls and make alot of them.</p>
larrydressler
<p>Have you thought of tapeing 2 strips together with thin plastic tape just overlap them a little and tape both sides use white paint pen to make the frame markings..</p>

rdm
<p>At this time i realise i forgot to mention that i alredy have in my refrigerator 2 bulk cans of unperforated kodak portra 400 speed film. Got it as part of a lot of film from a photographers frezer.<br> Thanks for that Link lary but if i am going to use proper 616 film backing paper i cant buy it with film , because i dont know where to drill the hole and put the frame indicator wondow, and if i unroll that paper till i get to see them i would ruin the film. I sent the guy a message maby he can help me out. So i only needed to find the backing paper or a way to make my own,<br> Also larry i didnt understand the last part of your sentance where you say "..and spools and fill can meet." Somone was kind enough to give me an empty spool and will be sending me a 116 spool soon. So ill try to copy that spool. I still have to make the mask that will go inside the camera, I want to make one for the 70mm film and one that works for 120 film, so i can change it as i need to. I wish i had access to my highschool metal shop still. Tin snips or a sawsall wont look as lice i think. Im going to go to home depo tomorow to get some sheet metal. I was thinking of some aluminim flashing and then buy some flat black paint.<br> on another note , i think i am going to look into what it would take to make a mold so i can cast my own spools from plastic or resin. I bet there would be able to sell some on ebay and recoup some of the costs of dooing so. I'm not looking to make money just break even and have fun using a classic camera.</p>
