6X7 chromes to PhotoCD?

1. Does anyone know if this service is even offered? If it is, who
would you recommend and what is the cost per scan?

2. You can scan 6x7 and larger transparencies on a Kodak Photo CD Pro. In our market it costs about $5.00 per trans, I think. (Grand Rapids, MI) We use the same supplier for all Kodak CD's, including 35mm. Just check a local source in your market.

3. Well, as a follow-up to my own post...

I just found out that Advanced Digital Imaging, http://www.adiweb.com ,
will do the 6X7 scans to Pro PhotoCD for $15. A little too rich for
my budget at the moment. I understand that they do have a reputation
for high quality work, though.

4. I recently moved up to 6x7 chromes. Previously I was using the the Kodak Photo CD for 35mm through Long's Drug Stores (California).
When inquiring about the 6x7 format, their Kodak CD booklet listed
the Pro CD (hi-res 4096 X 6144, which translates to 25-25Mb per disc)
The price was $10 per slide, the lowest I've seen. Other local
pro labs want $16.50.

If you just want a lower res, lower cost scan, you can dupe it to
35mm for $5 and then scan it on regular CD for $1.50 to $2.00.
But this really defeats the medium format.

5. If you haven't already found a good service provider Kodak has a search engine that lets you find one by state, city, etc. It is at

There is also a technical info site that answers ALL (well most) questions on PhotoCD at

Finally, if you have a question more in depth you might try the Kodak forum at

6. This is probably just by way of comparison & won't help much, but thought it may be interesting. Here in Taipei, all the pros (which I'm not) use one Jazz Studio for all their processing, printing and photo CD scanning. The costs (in US$, today's x-rate = NT$30.9 per US$) are: 35mm - $1 ea. plus $9.71 per disk (max 100 images per disk); 120/220 & 4x5 are $2.59 ea plus $16.18 per disk (max 25 images per disk) . I just realized what a good deal it is. I took some 35mm and large & medium format transparencies to be scanned just yesterday for the first time. If they turn out bad, I'll let you know. If you were scanning A LOT of images, I suppose it might be worth the shipping cost to send it over here to get done. FYI, jj
