55 Years Ago - January 1959

  1. Welcome to 1959. I originally wasn't going to do a 55 Years Ago post but it was an interesting year.
I will start with an article on the 1958 Photokina show. The show was and is a really big deal. It showcased most of the upcoming photographic equipment. I had a chance to go to the 1970 show as I was stationed in Germany. For some reason I didn't go. I still regret my decision.

  11. Now let's look at some camera equipment already on the market.
The Alpa cameras always fascinated me.

  17. I imagine you wore a suit and tie to buy your Rollei.

  18. Who would have thought that Yashica would have so many different TLRs at one time.

  19. A very understated Zeiss Ikon ad.

  20. Well you have to get your film developed. I didn't start to use Kodachrome until 1964. My family was all in B&W until the sixties. It looks like in 1959 you would use a prepaid envelope to send it away.

  21. Here is an ad for Minifilm camera store. It looks like a nice selection.

  23. That is it for January 1959. Who wants to bet when the first Nikon F ad appears?
