42mm screw thread to T90?

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have a number of 42mm screw thread lenses and want to know if there is an adapter available to mount them onto a T90. I have seen references to such a device but cannot find much detail on them. Are they any good and are they worth having? Would I be better of just selling all the lenses and getting FD mounts instead? Thanks for any help, Rob :-)

There is probably a screw mount to FD mount converter. You will most

likely lose most, if not all, of the automation of the T90. Those

lenses typically do not transfer aperture information, nor work in

full aperture metering. Even if the lens do, it won't communicate

this to the T90 body.

I would say you are better off selling them and buying FD lenses.

Canon offered an adaptor during the 70s (when I got mine) and it

probably dates well back into the 60s. What you're looking for is

Canon "Lens Mount Converter P". It will mount 42mm screw mount lenses

to all Canon SLRs from 1959 to the last of the "T" series. Lenses

mounted with this converter will focus to infinity. It is a simple

adaptor and transfers no information to the camera's metering system.

Additionally, you will have to use a lens that can be stopped down

manually as there is no coupling to the lenses aperture stop down pin.

This setup works most conveniently in the stop down, aperture priority

mode on my Canon A1, and should work in similar fashion on your T-90.

I've also used it in stopped down-match needle mode on older cameras.

You'll need to hunt through the photo shows and the used section of

camera shops to find this adapter. Last time I saw one at a show, the

dealer was asking $50 for it! I think I gave $13 for mine new in '76.
