john_hinkey
I have an excellent condition 300/4.5 ED-IF AIS that needs the rear element cleaned and it appears to have a slight centering problem - anyone have suggestions on how much it might cost to get it cleaned and adjusted and also the best place to send it?
Thanks - John
Ian Rance
Are you in the UK John? Tomorrow I am ringing Nikon UK to ask about telephoto lens repairs and the answer may be of use to you if you are local.
john_hinkey
Unfortunately no - I'm in the USA - Seattle in fact.
I've used APS before and Nikon El Segundo. Either could clean the rear element, but I'm not sure who would be best/cheapest for adjusting the lens.
Anyone else have suggestions?
Thanks -
John
bourboncowboy
KEH. I've had them CLA three lenses, and they've always done a fabulous job.
robert_hooper1
Hi John,

I used to use Photo-Tronics to service my camera equipment when I lived and worked as a professional in Seattle years ago. I see they are still in business. I was very pleased with their work and turn around time. They also had a very decent optical bench.

They said they used to have an optical bench, but not anymore. They pretty much are only good for non-optical problems.
Thanks - John
robert_hooper1
Well John, here is another place or rather person recommended to me by Sover Wong. Pete Smith doesn't have a web site but I have sent pre AI through AIS lenses to him for repair and he has done a great job at a reasonable price.

Pete Smith, 561-433-8434, Nikonsmith@aol.com

Fotocamera Repair, Inc.
3095 S. gerry b.
I would echo the recommendation for Pete Smith. He cleaned a 300mm 4.5 EDIF for me which had the same problem with the dusty rear element. It is about impossible to clean it well without some disassembly.
