asher
Howdy,

I'll be going to a Maine resort town for a weekend getaway in a little while. Just to keep things interesting and challenging, I'll bring just one prime lens for my D80. I have a 20mm f2.8, and an 85mm f1.8. I generally shoot whatever catches my eye.

Please help me by voting for one and only one lens (20 OR 85), no questions asked, and whichever one gets the most votes is the one I'll take.

Wafflers will not be counted ;-).

I'll post any shot(s) worth looking at when I return.

Cheers.

craigd
Since you're shooting a DX camera, I say take the 20mm. On DX the 20mm isn't all that wide (slightly narrower than 28mm on full frame), whereas the 85mm will give you framing very slightly wider than a 135mm on full frame. That being the case, I would think the 20mm would be more generally useful.
lex_jenkins
20mm
f/8
Hyperfocal setting.
Hip shots only, no peeking.

Or, pose victims with backs against wall. Direct flash, no diffusers. Bullseye composition.
Faux Polaroid and vignette in post.
Done.

CoryAmmerman
20- without question.

85x1.5=127.5 A focal length that long would be too restrictive for me as a single option.

jose_angel
To make things easier, definitely the 20.
But I`m with Leslie; the real challenge is to take the 85.

indraneel
OMG, how did you end up with two awful focal lengths for DX? But, the 85 is worse. The real challenge to choose would be if you had an FX, as both would be oh so sweet!

ian_gordon_bilson
"Catch the eye "? :85mm (in your case :127mm).
A wise old owl once told me : use the longest focal length that will get the job done.
For the other shots ,you could always shoot a pano, and stitch it.
On the other hand....

elliot1
85mm. Feet were invented before zoom lenses.

Beautiful bokeh. Ultra sharp, vibrant images. Who could ask or need more.

Looking forward to seeing your images.
Hector Javkin
I don't care whether you count me or not. This choice is a silly idea. Those lenses are not terribly heavy or bulky. Take them both.
