ian_collins1
Hi all, I'm wondering has anyone else ever experienced problems with the DOF button being activated by being either stuck physically, or electronically due to condensation. I am a 20D owner for 18 months and have had intermittent problems with it lately. The aperture blades are clearly stopped down when I experience this problem, but it gives me no problems when the button is "unstuck". Any known cure? I'm toying with the idea of removing the outer casing, and trying to clear any stray dust/dirt around that button. But maybe I should let a professional service do it. Any ideas? -Ian
funkag
Are you experiencing the promblem with just one lens, or with multiple lenses? If it's just one lens, its aperture blades may be the issue and not the camera.
jmf
You could try a little residue-less electronics cleaner. Whats the chance this was liquid gunk (like a soda/coffee splash) vs. dirt? How do you unstick the button?
steve_dunn2
Sorry, I can't help much. All I can do is say that I don't believe it's a common problem. It's never happened to me on my 20D or my Elan 7E before that, although I don't use DOF preview very much. And it's not a commonly-reported problem here; I'm not absolutely certain but I don't think I've seen anyone else complaining of the same problem, and experience here over the last several years has taught me that photo.netters are not shy about reporting problems with their gear.

Hope that helped, even a little bit, and good luck in your search for a cure.
luis alvarez torres
It happened to me once on my 300D, but it wasn't the DOF button, it was my 18-55 EFS lens the one that had the problem ocasionaly. At the begining I also tougth that it was a DOF problem. Try with other lenses before opening the camera case.
ian_collins1
Hi guys, Thanks for the answers. It happens with all lenses, so I know it's the DOF button. -Ian
