20D > 580EX slave w/o master?

Discussion in 'Lighting Equipment' started by littlemike, Oct 25, 2006.

  1. I have a 580EX and read in the manual that it can be used to communicate
wirelessly with other 580EX's, fully E-TTL. But what if a fellow only want to
own one 580EX and wants to operate it wirelessly off-camera? Is there a gadget
that will mount to the camera's hot shoe and "talk" to the one 580EX?
I guess I'm looking for the wireless parts, complete with full E-TTL, without
    the flash bits.

  3. Well, I'll be hornswoggled. The very thing! Thanks, Mark.

  4. hornswoggled!? Wow, that's an interesting word.

The infrared transmitter is great and comes in very handy, but if
you're shooting in bright sunlight and using the flash for fill,
you'll find that the infrared doesn't work so well. In that case,
I like to use a off camera hot shoe modified with 6' extra cord
spliced into it. With this set up, you're sure to have your stobe fire
and can have an assistant hold it anywhere you want it.

  5. I also just found out about Paramount Cords, who will make you a custom e-ttl off shoe cord at the length you want.
