musubi1000
I just got a hold of a 200mm f1.8L and it needs some work. CPS no longerservices these lenses. Does anyone have an idea on how to get some work done onthese lenses? Thanks in advance.
mark u
You may have some luck if you contact a Canon authorised repair agent - but it will depend on what work is needed. For example, in London there is Fixation. Certain spare parts are no longer available (e.g. the USM motor), and so repairs can depend on cannabalising another lens. ralph_jensen
Did you try KEH? They do some very impressive work on long-discontinued gear, so it's worth a call?
14mm 2.8l
Canon in Japan worked on these about 6 months ago. I almost bought one 6 months ago that had just been serviced by them. Round trip USA to Japan and back will run you $250 for shipping plus their service fees. I passed on the lens due to the fact an inner element had oxidized due to metals content in that glass element and this element was no longer available. That turned me off on these lowlight telephotos. Kind of a time bomb, if all 200mm 1.8L have this same oxidizing inner element. These are approaching 20 years old now, and have been discontinued for about 5 years now. Lindy
