17-35 AF-s clicks when being mounted

It seems that every new high-end Nikon lens brings with it another

problem.

Whereas the 80-400 VR wiggled a little bit in its mount, the new AF-S

17-35 is very, very tight in the mount. It actually takes quite a

bit of effort to get it to lock. What's more, it clicks 4 or 5 times

from the beginning to the end of the process. I've never had another

lens do this.

Is this another normal variation, harmless sloppiness, or a defective

lens. It sure is annoying.

Thanks!

The clicking is the little round electrical contacts which are on little springs on the lens flange & when the lens is mounted ,it contacts the electrical contacts inside the lens opening on the camera body .When you turn the lens , it makes a cicking sound as the round contacts pass over the contacts in the body.It is more noticeable on the F100 than an F5.
