joseph_gledhill
Is there a problem in using the 105mm Micro VR on a D90 body considering the lens is heavier than the body? The lens does not have a tripod mount so is it ok to put this set up on a tripod via the camera mount? Many thanks.
lawrence_ho
105mm is not that heavy. If you have a decent tripod/head, it won't be an issue.
kari v
Yep, don't worry, 105VR is actually pretty light / normal weight.
Rene11664880918
I'm sure engineers and designers at Nikon know how much the mount of their DSLRs can hold and they design their lenses with or with out a tripod collar according to it.
joseph_smith3
I have a different opinion. The lens is heavier than the older Nikon f 2.8 AF 105mm macro it replaces by 42% (27. 9 oz vs 19.6 oz.) And that older lens is difficult to use when the camera is mounted to a tripod at the camera's base plate. I know this from personal experience. While I do not own the VR version, I would be careful when mounting it to a tripod on any camera body that is not all metal. And the PN-11 tube, which has a tripod mounting collar, cannot be used on the VR version of the lens. I use the PN-11 tube to resolve the mounting problems with the older version of the lens.
Joe Smith

mizuho_saito
Just make sure that you're tripod is reliable enough to hold this combination. A good tripod should have no problems.
