benjamin_cromwell
I do not have much experiance with flash Photography and I just got a new 70-200 lens. I use a canon ElAN IIe and 540EZ flash. I noticed that the 540 ez will zoom to 105mm but does this mean you cannot use it with a 200mm lens? How can I shoot with a 200mm and use this flash? Can this be done and produce good pictures? Thanks BC
Jerry_
You should be able to use the flash (within reason.) If you have a subject 90 or 100 yards off in the distance, and your flash goes to 40 yards (max) as an example, the flash will not do as you request. If you use the 110mm to 200mm settings on your lens, and keep the subject within 20 to 25 feet outdoors, the flash should provide fill-flash as designed. Indoors, you will have to experiment how much the flash can illuminate and how far it will reach.
NK Guy
It'll work fine. You'll waste a bit of light around the periphery because the flash can't narrow down to the coverage of a 200mm lens and so illuminates the whole area covered by a 105mm lens, but that's about it.
http:// photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/index3.html#zoom
vitaly_gnatyuk
See Flash X-tender -- easy optic device for active more object lightnes by youre flash if you use long lens. The result is a flash output that gains up to 3 full f-stops, depending on your flash zoom setting. It is designed to be used with lenses 300mm or longer and TTL flash units.
Also, you can make adapter from 4 mirors (of metalized film) which reflects light going outside yuore frame to the frame area. It make the same effect.
