Time Between Exposure and Developing

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Yellowstone in a week and am bringing some chrome. I

have access to a roll processor and E-6 chems at school, but won't be

back for two months afterwards.

Would it be okay to throw the chrome in the freezer after I get back,

and develop them at school in 2 months? Or, should I bring them to a

pro lab ($6.50/roll - ouch!)?

In my limited experience (Provia 100F, processing delayed for one year at room temperature), no problem. I exposed half the roll, forgot about the camera for a year, finished the roll and processed it promptly. Couldn't see any difference between the first and second halves.

With other films the latent image is more sensitive to delays, especially when not chilled. The now discontinued Kodak VPS would show color shifts from adverse storage conditions (temperature, humidity) and delays in processing.

Pushed film and ultrafast films (like Delta 3200) are particularly sensitive to delays in processing.

If you're exposing those chromes normally I'd say toss 'em in the fridge or freezer, process 'em yourself later. They should be fine. Try to keep 'em cool during the trip too.
