Robert_Lai
It is probably not worth it. Nikon charged me $250 to do a CLA on an F3 in decent shape. I don't know how much an 8008 body is worth on the used market, but you have to decide if $250+ is worth it. Because the batteries spill caustic stuff inside the camera, the electronics inside the camera are probably all corroded off. To repair it will mean new circuit boards, and Nikon is the only source. The best you could do is disassemble the camera yourself and sell parts of it off on ebay, e.g. rewind knob, back, etc.

Jerry_
If the batteries that leaked were a good brand name, the battery company may offer to replace the camera body. Or you can try a non-Nikon USA repair shop for an estimate.
austin_calhoon
I had a similar situation happen with exploding batteries and one of my Sunpak 555 handle mount flashes. I was using Varta Photo batteries, and sent a reciept of sale for the Supak, the flash unit, as well as the defective batteries to Varta. They quickly determined the flash wasnt fixable, and sent me a check for the full retail price of the Sunpak. They even sent back the broken flash unit, which I sold for parts. I would say that it might not be worth paying to fix your 8008. I would sell it for parts on E-Bay, and put the proceeds towards a functional camera body. I learned my lesson, and learned to use only batteries from reputable manufacturers, I strongly reccomend Varta Photo Batteries if you use Alkalines. chuck_greene
Sergio, How bad is the damage? If it is just corrossion on the battery contacts that can be taken off with fine grit sandpaper.
scott_warn
The battery holder for this camera is available as a seperate part for about 30.00. If that actual contacts in the camera can be cleaned up, a new battery holder could be a cheap way to get the camera working. If the contacts in the body are beyond cleaning it may be best to look for another camera.
