EOS10D at Park Deals?

Hi,

I did a search through Photo.net on Park Deals

(http://shop.store.yahoo.com/parkdeals/index.html) and did not see

any negative information. Anyone purchase a 10D from them? They

state "This product is brand new and comes complete with all

manufacturer supplied accessories. USA warranty IS included." Just

want to be sure and not have someone walk away with my $1250.

Thank you,

Paul

PS I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this.

Means one of three things.

1) They are actually a decent, honest shop with a great deal. Was there any positive feedback for them?

2) They are very new, and hence haven't built up feedback, you're on your own with trusting them.

3) they are an existing place with such a bad reputation they had to change their name as nobody would ever trust them to even tell the time of day. Now they have a new name nobody knows they sell there own grandmother if the profit were good.

Stay away from Park Deals AND from Express Camera (your other post about cheap prices). Both places are shady. PArk Deals has no ratings on a couple of ratings sites (too new) and their internet address is on yahoo, not their own domain . . .

Friendly advice:

Stop wasting time searching for the lowest price - just go right now to a reputable dealer like B&H or Adorama etc via photo.net link. Pay the going rate and be assured of not getting screwed. You seem like a prime candidate to get taken advantage of.

Good insight guys. And John, posting here is how I intend to avoid being taken advantage of. :) I do a majority of shopping online (ease of use, ability to point and click etc) usually with the big companies. I thought I might be able to find a small "mom and pop" photo shop to buy from online...

Thanks again...

I have bought a lot of photo gear from B&H. They are definately reliable.

Camera World of Oregon is shady. Both their mail order arm and their

downtown Portland retail locations are to be avoided in my opinion. I have

had them stall, hem, and haw for months about simple things (eyepiece

extender, BG-ED3, and a spare battery for the 10D) feeding me lines about

'soon, now' and 'well, the Canon rep was just in, he said next week' when

they list the very same items in their online store and claim the items ship

next day! Finally, I went in to have them delete my 'order' and told them that

I'd be buying from B&H from then on, as their prices were better and they

were extremely prompt.

If a successful business can be made from such flim-flammery, that says

something about the gullibility of buyers. Please save yourself the time,

trouble, and cash and buy from a respectable business. Camera dealers are

much like automobile dealers - it's a rare one that you can trust.

Camera World of Oregon used to among the 3 or 4 honest no BS big dealers around. If B&H did have it, I went straight to CWO. Unfortunately, after their sale to Ritz, the whole operation took a mightly slide south. It's kind of a photo Kmart now.

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.

Fry's is like an electronics homedepot. Great if you know what you are looking for but don't expect the staff to be able to count to ten even when using both hands. Also, when in store pay special attention to little white stickers. My company has a business account with them so I've been in there a lot. When something is returned they will most often re-seal it and stick it back on a shelf, and as good as their checks may (or may not) be, I've often had re-sealed items that were dead, or missing stuff. We since switched our account over to CompUSA and are much happier with them.

Like others have mentioned though.... B&H. I do all my personal purchases there.

If I go into CompUSA, and they have the item I want in stock, on the shelf, at a good price, I'll buy it. If it involves a rebate, I won't buy from them expecting to ever see the rebate (they've burned me twice).
And I don't know if it is local (Grand Rapids, MI) or chainwide, but a couple weeks ago while standing at the CompUSA "service" counter to get a raincheck, I read a sign stating that raincheck items must be paid for in full at the time the raincheck is issued, and there is no guarantee that they will even get the item restocked (I really would like to know if that policy is even legal). Deadlines for any applicable rebates are not extended for a rainchecked item. If the item is not restocked within a month or so, a raincheck holder may then apply for a refund of the money that had been paid up front.
Not the kind of place I enjoy doing business, but I did stock up on photo paper at their recent "50% off" sale.
