George, my apologies, and my sympathies. I think it's fair to say that nobody was making fun of Prostate Cancer, but rather, we were mocking this latest proclamation from the leading edge of medical science.

And Dennis, I think I can stay, since I almost forgot that I DO have an R4, but I have tended to think of that as a nicely finished Minolta with a Leica lens mount.

A Mount Blanc is not a particularly good fountain pen in my opinion. I had a couple of them both of which broke. They are made of cheap brittle modern plastic and like almost all modern fountain pens come with extremely rigid nibs that are usually too big at the tip for anything but illegible scribbly signatures. You are better off with a vintage pen made at a time when everyone used fountain pens that were actually intended to be functional for writing and not as desk ornaments.

>>>My Submariner which I wear daily, has broken its mainspring 3 times, at $225 a

pop for service, since I got it new in 1990. My 2-tone Oyster which I bought new in

1986 but wear maybe twice a month, has been serviced 3 times, finally broke the

original mainspring last month.<<<

Sounds like the results of hard and excessive wanking.

I like to have things around me that are thoughtfully designed, simple, and manufactured to tight tolerences; that work really well and for a long while; things that are robust, that seldom if ever need service - but can be serviced when necessary. I would prefer that such things be free and plentiful; but, you're right, money is no object - I'll pay the going rate if I have it to pay (or can get it). If I don't have it, I often prefer to do without altogether, rather than use some cheap and poorly made trash. (And, as we all know, too often expensive items are "cheap and poorly made" - but gussied up like a twenty dollar whore.) (Which also reminds me that cheap and trashy can be fun - but i prefer it in that case with the pretence.)
