Any tips or techniques for shooting surfers in the water with my digital camera? ISO, exposure, etc???

I recently purchased a Canon S45 with the Canon underwater case.

Any tips on what to set the manual settings to take a good picture

while im sitting on my board in the water? I'm trying to experiment

with taking pictures in the water, rather than on shore, but i can't

really get a good picture. How fast of a shutter speed, iso, etc..

are you surfers setting it at?

I don't shoot surfing. But I can tell you that I try to keep my shutter speed around 1/500 when I shoot BMX riders and over 1/1000 when I shoot wakeboarders.

 

Maybe that will help a little.

I am by no means a pro, nor have i ever shot surfing, but i might reccomend that you try under exposing slightly ..maybe 1/2 because of the reflected ambient light from the water. Also, A fast shutter speed is a must.
