For Sales here on the Oly forum?

Is there any feeling for or against putting FS items in this forum?

The Leica forum allows them and it makes sense there. I personally

wouldn't mind seeing Olympus-specific FS items here. A perfect

opportunity for 'narrowcasting'.

The Leica forum is the ONE exception on the site to the rule against classifieds in the forums.

I agree that it is a good opportunity for "narrow-casting", but I intend to provide that by creating links between the classifieds section (where ads are permitted) and related forums. We want the forums and the classifieds sections to support each other, not cannibalize each other.

The Leica forum was made an exception because it migrated to photo.net from another site, and ads were already a significant feature of that forum before the move.

I have to agree with Brian on this. On the b&w forums, where I'm the housekeeper, I asked for members' opinions about accepting ads within the forums. With the exception of a couple of raspberries the idea received unanimous yawns.

The problem I see with allowing ads within a forum is that others can make remarks about the ads, ranging from "That price is too high!" to "What are you, high?" That tends to engender a less than harmonious atmosphere, old chappie.

Photo.net classifieds are pretty good. No point messing up the forums.
