Inexpensive used p&s mainly for internet use?

Hi all, I know zip about digital cameras but find myself needing to

buy one to photograph items I would like to sell on internet

auctions. I'd like to spend under $100 US to solve this problem if

that is realistic. Please suggest a camera or cameras to look for,

and what to watch out for. Also, what would I need in order to

upload the images? Thanks.

After you have taken the shot, you need to resize and probably crop it, plus a few other tricks like color correction. Something like Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro is your friend. To upload the to auction sites, you just upload it by using a form on the web page itself, nothing hard.

We have an incredibly cheap VGA (640 x 400) only camera. However it does not have an LCD which means that if you want to take close ups then there are real problems with paralax and the viewfinder not showing what the lens picks up. If you want to avoid a lot of frustration buy the cheapest camera with LCD. Any camera will do what you want in terms of resolution.

 

If you are photographing small objects then your lighting is probably far more important.

I have a 1.2 Mpixel Canon A30. Their older A10 model (same res)

may be close to your price range. I get great shots using a tripod

and a lamp for lighting with the camera set to Incandenscent

(since the auto white balance is a bit too orange with indoor

lighting).
