best slide film for skin tones

Recommended Posts

ok, so far, i havent had much luck with skin tones from slide film.

i like to shoot slide film because it is so much more fun to look at

and half the cost for me to evaluate (i.e. develop and mount is half

the cost of develop and proof print of c-41). i was just wondering

if there were any slide films that were really good with skin

tones. anything near superia reala or nph would be outstanding, but

i will settle for less. thanks.

Kodak E100G, E100GX, E200, Elite Chrome 100, and Elite Chrome 200 all have nice skins tones. Kodachrome is nice too.

A lot of people like Fuji Astia and Sensia for skin tones, but my personal experience has shown it to render caucasian skin a bit too red for my taste. It's a very nice film, though. New versions of Astia and Sensia are coming out soon, so they may do a better job at skin tones.

The problem is usually not the slide film, but the means of extracting good images from them. Good skin tones from slide films is not the same technique as shooting a sunset or flower shot, be it in an analog wet R-type print or slide scan.

Kodak E100G or Fuji Astia (Sensia 100 in the amatuer market) should be your first choices.
