Tricking out the Nikon D100

I felt like posting this since I have had several people copy my D100

to a T, so maybe others can benefit from it as well. I have a few

things that I did to my D100 which always makes it a pleasure to

shoot.

1. Get the AR-9 shutter release. The shutter button as presently

designed is convex, and so is your fingertip. The AR-9 is concave,

and you can cover much more shuter release area with your finger.

This should have been included on the body from day one!

2. Get the eyecup for the N6006. The eyecup that comes with the D100

serves what purpose? Maybe to stop glasses from getting scratched on

the camera, but it shades nothing. The eyecup that you get with the

N4004 and N6006 has some shade on the top side, while the bottom is

flat do you can still see your screen. Don't let on too much about

this eyecup or the prices will shoot through the roof.

3. Overexpose everything by .5 stops. With film we are told to shoot

for the shadows and print for the highlights. Well with digital it

is close to slide film in the adjustments necessary to see an image

change. 1/2 stop on print film is meaningless. I overexpose .5

stops and find that I am highly satisfied with my results.

There you have it, my less than $20 solution to make digital

photography much more enjoyable. What have YOU done to your D100

that you can share with others? Post here please!

The eyecuos are hard to find, they do not have a regulat DK designation like other eyecups. Try B&H, or Ebay, but I go to camera swap shows and find them that way.

Good idea about ducting down the pop up flash! Sometimes I hit the little pop up button when I have a regular flash on the camera, I bet that can confise the camera since the little flash doesn't get to come up all the way.

The white balance is perfect for sunny daylight, but that little flash has almost no purpose, ad actually screws up the white balance if you ask me!
