dan_smith
Having seen the best part of a Wisner camera, the red kid leather bellows, anyone know who makes them for Ron? Does he outsource them... have someone not in the factory make them for his cameras? Or possible actually do it in house? Also, where does he get the kid leather thin enough & large enough to make bellows for 8x10 and larger cameras?
john_kasaian1
Super-sized kids can be found at McDonald's eating french fries. I'm not sure they support any kind of political idiology, though!---------Cheers!
todd_caudle
I attended a Wisner workshop in Death Valley a few years ago, and overheard Ron tell an attendee that he could make a bellows in any color she wanted. It sounded like he did the work himself, but I'm not sure he didn't outsource the work. I used to own a Wisner Expedition 4x5, with a red bellows. My smartass friend called it my "Lady Wisner." Now I go for Ebony's "basic black."
thomas_young1
I remember reading somewhere a couple of years ago that Wisner was the only (at that time) camera maker that had a permanent in house bellows maker. I think that that might have been in an article in View Camera magazine about Wisner's factory, but I am not sure.
john_cook1
I think we have had quite enough Wisner bashing for a while. But just a small cautionary note, if you will permit. I attempted to purchase 4x5 wide-angle bellows a few years ago from the factory. They were red inside as well as out. I didn't think this would help my transparency color balance, so I sent them back.
nathan_congdon
I do believe that he makes his own bellows still; that was the impression I got at a recent tour of his factory. Nathan
william_marderness1
Wisner bellows larger than 8x10 are not made of leather.
michael_kadillak6
Update. When I just ordered my 12x20 back a month ago, I asked for burgandy bellows and was told that the synthetic red was the standard offering. To go to another color meant paying about $300 more for leather. Because of the additional cost (and potential weight), I determined that surely I can live with the standard red bellows. peter_white2
I've seen the bellows being made at the Wisner shop. PJW
