I'm considering a M6, classic or TTL, and as I was out shopping

around for one, I found a nice crome M6 classic body with a

design feature different to all other I have seen. Is has just the

letters

M6

on the front, and not

LEICA

M6

as usualy is the case. The Letters are also a bit larger,

reminding of the script on the M7.

I dont know if this variation is worth any notice in other regards

than that, that it looks quite good with just the two letters "M6"

instead of the sligtly cluttered impression of the longer and more

common lettering "LEICA M6". Other factors is more important in

the final decision of course, but I would be glad, though, if

anyone could comment on this variant.

Thanks beforehand

Hans

I´ve got a black M6 in that configuration, didn´t realize it was apart from the crowd until a few weeks ago. Payed ordinary prize for it, so i don´t think it carries any extra weight with the "collector crowd". It is a very nice camera though, i prefer the classic M6 as the shutter speed dial spinns the "right way". Lycka till med plåtandet;-)

Hello Hans,

there was one for sale on Ebay Germany recently. It was sold to Italy. The chrome "M6" version is quite rare, there a much more black versions around. I have seen the chrome version only twice in my life, once at a photo fair years ago and second the one on ebay couple of weeks ago. If I would have had the money at that moment I would have bid. The price was about 1080 EUR if I remember correctly.

I have one of the black "M6" cameras as well. I was told on this forum that they are the "first run" M6 cameras and that all later cameras carry the Leica M6 designation. As mentioned, check out Gandy's site (www.cameraquest.com) for a long list of minor variations of the M6 camera. FWIW, Rich Pinto at Photo Village had one and he called it the "rare" version.

I have a chrome M6 with just the "M6" engraved on the front. Mine was made in 1988 according to the list in Rogliatti's book. I have never considered it anything special, and neither did Jim Kuehl when he sold it to me 10 years ago. My understanding is that the "M6" engaving without the word "Leica" denotes a fairly early M6. You could establish that based on serial number. I have never have mine adjusted, though it gets plenty of exercise, and it works just fine. Buy it, Hans, and go have some fun.

OK, thank you all! I have checked out Stephen Gandy's site. The

variation is mentioned but not as anything collectible, as I

thought. The one I am concidering is not cheep the deeler has

a black M6 that are both younger and lower priced, as well as a

few black TTL's at the same price but it is in very good shape.

Not a scratch to be seen. And a crome body would look nice with

my chrome 50 Summicron rigid. Decisions, decisions Ett

I'll chime in w/ the others - net/net, don't pay extra for that model.

In my opinion, make use of the weak dollar and buy yourself a minty M6TTL w/ .72 viewfinder for around $1,200, happily from someone on this list (like the one Jay posted below) and ship it over to Sweden (if that is were you indeed are from). By buying a minty M6TTL, you get a more modern camera, less likely to need a CLA anytime soon.

Thank you all for your comments in this matter. I decided not to

pay extra for the "M6" script variation, even though it included the

original box, since the dealer had an even finer chrome M6

classic in the 200#### series at a very good price the plastic on

the base plate still in place, absolutely top shape.

begagnat just nu. Jag betalade bara 10.800 kr för en riktig

skönhet ;))

Hej Patrick,

Hans
