bob_cook
Am I correct in assuming that non-D auto focus Nikon lenses, when used with the D100, still offer standard matrix metering, but not 3D Matrix metering. That's how it works with my F5. Or do I lose matrix metering completely and only have center-weighted or spot? TIA, Bob
ellis_vener_photography
You get Matrix metering. Where did you get the idea that you did not?
mskovacs
You lose the ability to do direct flash using the distance (D) information supplied by a D lens. I believe the (confusing!) lingo of Nikon might be to blame: 3D matrix balanced fill flash is easy to confuse with matrix metering.
suchismit1
The only purpose 'D' serves is for making direct flash shots in mirrors. Thats it.
ilkka_nissila
Tim, that's not quite correct. "D" improves exposure accuracy a great deal for nature close-ups with straight flash. Try it some time, you'll be blown away. And no sane and knowledgeable person would use direct flash for people shots, but people are shot on negative film anyway, so D isn't really needed. My, you live in a highly structured world, don't you?
