robb_reed
Hey Guys, I looking to buy a Schneider 305mm G-Claron. I know their manufacture has been discontinued by Schneider. I've looked everywhere that I know of for a new one. I've looked in numerous places for a used one, but haven't found one, new or used. Anybody have a used one they'd consider selling? The only other lens I'd consider in place of the G-Claron at the moment is a 12 inch Goerz Red Dot APO Artar. Thanks much Robb Reed

donald_miller1
I recently bought a 450 M Nikkor from them and it was as represented. Good people to deal with.

john_mcdonald
I also have had very positive dealings at Midwest Photo. In fact, they seem to go out of their way to deliver a good deal, and then some. If it is large format I am after, I prefer to speak with Jim, if he is available. www.georgeury.com also has a mint 305 G-Claron for sale, and he is very good to do business with, in my experience. I believe Schneider Optics bought up all available new G-Claron stock, and it is possible they still have some, in which case you will need to go through an authorized Schneider dealer, which includes Charles P. Farmer Photography. He got me a new 305mm G-Claron at a good deal, with great service, after the new lenses became scarce.
tim_atherton2
B&H seems to have them in stock at a horrendous price new, but with an "email me a price" option...
tim_atherton2
Okay - $884.95 new from B&H rather than $1,513.00 - that's better... about 100+ over mpex 9++ , which is probably basically almost new

keith_merrill
Robb, This is a blantant plug for my G-Claron. I have mine up for sale on that auction site that ends in bay. Thing is brand new looking and is mounted in a modern copal shutter. I also have a top hat for it that is mounted in a linholf board - ebony board. That is not in the auction but I am going to sell it separately. I am scaling down on my gear because I want to get a boat and that is the only way that my wife will let me get one. It really is a truly classic lens. My *bay name is Latte1973. Check it out and thank you very much
john_kasaian1
Robb, I doubt that you'll find the 12" RD Apo Artar a substitute for G-Claron, it won't have anywhere near the coverage you'd want for 8x10. A 300mm Nikkor M would serve your purposes better than the 12" Artar, though even with the Nikkor lens, the coverage is "tight." FWIW, if you find a 305 G-Claron in a barrel, its a simple matter to mount it in a Copal shutter(it'll screw right in) and our late friend SK Gimes' shop can fit it with the proper scale. I understand Calumet can supply the scales as well. For an alternative to the G-Claron, you might want to look at APO Ronars(I never used one, but people I know swear by them) Congos(once again, I haven't used one, but they are reputed to be modern versions of the Commercial Ektar, which I do use and they're fine choices) The Commercial Ektar and the Dagor. If you're patient however, a 305 G-Claron at a reasonable price is sure to come your way---Good Luck!
hong_sien_kwee
I bought a barrel G-Claron 305mm/9 for USD 50 (!!) but it won' t fit on a Copal shutter (1 or 3). Guess I have to send it to SK Grimes, but his charges are so high! I just will do with a behind the lens shutter :-)
