F3 shutter sticking at 1/80th

Sorry for the short answer. I wasn't checking names in the thread, and misread the new info you provided.

Could the camera think a flash is attached? That would lock the shutter at 1/80. A defective ISO shoe adapter, for example. Maybe a low battery?

There is a conductor/insulator strip with contact blades that are part of the frame counter assembly. The conductor is orientated so that the contact blades make contact at frame 1 and higher but not earlier. When the circuit is closed, the IC allows the shutter speed to be set as desired.

I have heard of this conductor strip slipping but this would cause the 1/80 failure up to the same number of frames and wouldn't be intermittent.

I'm not a repair expert but I think that there may be some crud or a loose connection that is causing intermittant problems with the electrical contact. This is probably beyond most people's ability to fix themselves so a repair is probably in order. There's some instruction here on how to get into the area of interest but the problem being fixed is a broken release. You can't really see what I talk about above but its all under the counter assembly that you see removed in the last photo.
