Do Nikon scanners work won b&w slides (ie Scala).

I just bought the Canon FS4000US. Does a great job on color slides

(Here are three samples:

and b&w negs, but simply botches b&w slides. It simply doesn't cut

throught the dense parts of the slide.

I've tried a couple of different things, including scanning as a b&w

neg and then inverting in photoshop. I made sure FARE was off.

Help!

The LS4000 has a higher DMax than the FS4000 and may, possibly, do better with the Density problems you're having. I personally haven't tried my LS4000 with Scala...you might find someone with one and try it out....if you want to send me a sample slide I can try scanning it for you and send you the results to see how it goes...write by private e-mail if you wanna try that.

Before you throw in the towel with the Canon, however, I'd suggest trying Vuescan scanning software to see if it works better for you...worth a try.
