How to preview Epson output without paper profile?

Recommended Posts

I have an Epson 1270 and am working in Photoshop 7.0. I have

downloaded paper profiles from Legion paper for example and am able

to see and select those profile in the print preview print space

profile. However, I do not see any profiles in there for the Epson

papers, only a pull down menu in properties section under media type

in the printer dialogue window. As a result, my images when printed

on Epson paper are all over the place. I spoke with Epson and they

say there are no profiles as with legion for the print space profile.

Does anyone have these profiles in this pull down menu, and if so

where did you get them? If not, what are the suggestions for what

print space profile should be set to. Thank you.

Caryn: Windows or Mac? My Epson 1280 came with profiles on the same CD that contained the printer drivers and other Epson software - and automatically loaded them at the same time I loaded the driver (onto a Mac G3).

They definitely show up in the location you describe (Print Options/Advanced/Color management/print space). I see "Epson 1280-Epson Premium Glossy", "Epson 1280-Epson Heavyweight Matte", etc (about 8 or 9 Epson varieties). And these are distinct from the "media type" choices in "Page Setup/options".

Frankly, the on-screen previews (Photoshop's "proof colors" and Epson's "print-to-proof" views) don't look much like my prints - but my 'normal' screen view of the image in PhotoShop 6 looks very close to the prints I get using the "Epson 1280-Premium glossy paper" profile.

I've been told the profiles are available for download from Epson's website, and that I should check there regularly even though I already have the profiles, since they get upgraded/revised - but have not yet looked for them myself.

Am I to understand that the PIM plug-in may be of use for those simply trying to print a scanned image file - not necesarily having a PIM enabled digital camera and file? Also, I notice the downloads do not include a version for the Epson 1270. Does any know whether the plug-in and profiles work with this printer as well?

Thanks!

the epson profiles are not directly accessible on a windows system. To have them directly I loaded my 1270 software on a MAC and copied the profiles to a disk and then loaded them to the PC. I was only interested in a few of the profiles so I did not copy all of them. If you cannot get them elsewhere email me and I'll send them to you. Otherwise let the epson software manage the job (i.e., select the ICM mode) after assigning source = document, and print space = same as source. It then uses the profiles automatically.
