AC ADAPTER FOR COOLPIX 2000

I just purchased a COOLPIX 2000 which did not come with an AC

adapter. On the bottom of the camera it has a label that indicates

8.4V-.4A 6V-.5A. The Nikon adapter specified for the camera is an EH-

53 and I have searched the Internet for the ouput voltage and amp

specifications without any success. I already have a HP AC adapter,

part number C6320-61605, output 6V-2000mA, and the pin jack on the

adapter fits in the Nikon camera.

My question is: Can I safely use the HP adapter with the Nikon?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Woodrow

Correct me if my math is wrong but isnt 1A = 1000mA, ie. 0.4A = 400mA and 2000mA = 2A?

If the device is 8.4vx0.4A = 3.36VA and/or 6vx0.5A = 3 VA then the HP adapter's 6v x 2A = 12 VA is way above the CP2000's power rating and will likely fry the camera.

Anyone want to put their CP2000 on the line to find out and then post their experiences here? 8-)

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I decided I would buy the Nikon AC adapter EH-53 just to ensure I had the right power requirements. Having a hard time finding one so far, local Nikon dealers don't care it and I guess the camera is so new they don't show any after market one compatable. Thanks again guys.
