Switch to Mac: How to import my "PC" scanned files into Mac OS and PS 7?

Recommended Posts

I have several photos scanned with a Minolta Elite on a PL Platform

(Win 98 and Win XP). I recently switch to a Mac and I got PS7.

However, I do not know how to treat these old files. Should I keep

the embeded profile, should I change them ... While on screen the

pictures are great, on print they are bad (obviously the colors are

not right, too much red, loss of details, etc....). What are the

steps involved in switching these pictures to my new system?

Jonathan,

Where should is set Adobe 1998 in photoshop (in color management, when soft proofing?). I do not have this problem with other type of files (digital cameras for instance) so this is not a problem with the monitor not being calibrated.

Go to the color settings in Photoshop: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_4.htm

Adobe RGB should be your RGB working space. The monitors on all your computers should have unique monitor profiles, preferably hardware generated. If this is your setup the colors should be very consistent across computers.

If in addition you want faithful prints you need a profile for your printer. If you use an inkjet this means enabling "ICM" or "color management" in the printer driver and using one of the papers that is supported by the driver.
