Ilfochrome discontinued - part II

After reading your comments on my previous message, where I was

claiming that my printer had been told by Ilford that Ilfochrome had

been discontinued , I wanted to investigate more as to why he had

made such a declaration, seen the fact that he is an honest person.

Today I double asked him about the news and found out the solution

for the mistery: he was referring to Ilfochrome reels for commercial

lab printing, not to sheet . He confirmed Ilford is continuing to

produce sheets for amateur/professional use.

That's it, sorry for the panic spread over the forum....

I believe that your printer may still be a little confused. Rolls are still available in the ILFOCHROME Classic line, up to widths of 50". Whether you print your ILFOCHROME prints yourself, or have them printed by a professional lab, you can be assured that ILFOCHROME Classic is still around, and there are no plans to change that.

There are several labs using ILFOCHROME in digital enlargers (Lambda and Lightjet). The list is slightly out of date, and larger than I would want to post on the board. Obviously, I don't want to post a partial list. So if you are interested, drop a request to us-techsupport@ilford.com and I will send you a copy of the labs I know of offering the service.

Chromatics in Nashville does prints Ilfochrome on their Lambda. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to. There is something about Ilfochrome that no other paper has. I have compared a few Lambda prints on Crytal Achive to Ilfochromes, and the Ilfochrome is usually much better.Seeing the words Ilfochrome Discontined scared me since I love this material and occasionally print it myself.

My Ilfochrome dealer was in contact with Ilford because of scratchy CF1k material and he was told they couldn't deliver any CF1k

anymore because they are going to change their production line to consist only one contrast grade. And this would be something near the midcontrast CLM paper. SO SAY GOODBYE to one of the finest photographics products ever made, the glossy, low contrast CF1k material from Ilford.

For me, this will make the end in my fifteen years career as an Ilfochrome printer, as I'm not going back to the hell of masking printing anymore.
