Multiple Flashes with D-100

I have a D100 and two chorded SB-50DX strobes. The strobe manual's

fine print recommends not using the SB-50DX for multiple flash

setups because the "slave" will go into standby. Nikon technical

help desk says you can't utilize TTL with two SB-50DX strobes on a

D100; you must use manual. But SB-50DXs will give only full power on

manual--you can't select fractional output and you can't override

auto standby. What is a good dual flash setup for D-100 for closeup

photography? Preferably with TTL.

SB-28dx or SB-80dx. Actually I 'd choose an SB-80dx or SB-28dx as master

and then use an older SB-24/25/26/28 as the slave as the exposure "thinking"

is done by the relationship between the master and the camera.
On the

other hand: Have you actually tried using the SB-50 combination?
You

might also consider trying the Nikon SU-4 smart slave eye that enables

cordless TTL slaving.
