"M6-TTL 0.85x with Wide-Angle Lens"

Hi friends,

My plan to buy a 0.72x for this christmas has to be changed

because they have been discontinued.

Anyway, I still love to shoot with wide-angle lenses :(

especially lower than 28 mm while 0.85x provides the correct

lineframes from 35mm ...

My questions are

(1) When I use 28mm lens, what will happen if I use the

edges of the normal viewfinder to guess the frame ?

(2) If it is not possible (or not quite good), focussing

and framming with the normal viewfinder and an external

viewfinder still work ??

(3) If I have to use both co-viewfinder, which one should I

buy, the "21-24-28" viewfinder or a separated one (the square

one) ???

Thanks you so much :)

Alez

Alez, if you want a '28' set-up, Like Mike said, get the 0.58. If you want the best 'all-round' lens VF, get a 2nd hand 0.72.

(1) Forget it. Its still not wide enough. I tried it with my 0.85, and in the end had to get a 28 VF attachment

(2) Yes, why not? you just have to bob up and down between the camere VF and the VF attachment. Just remember with a 28 lens you dont always have to check the focusing as the DOF is quite great

(3) If you have several wides then get the combined one. If you only have a 28 and will not get any more wider lenses, just get the square one. Its smaller and more compact. Get the plastic one, unless you want to pay collector prices for a black metal one.

I don't know where you are located. Here in London you can still get new .72 M6 TTLs. Look around, otherwise buy a used one as already suggested.

My guess is that using the edges of the viewfinder to see in 28mm with a .85 will be give you very rough estimates: Already on the .72, the 28 framelines are very much on the edges.

I dislike the new 21/24/28 viewfinder (too big and tunnel vision) and prefer older ones, but I guess if you use more than 1 wide-angle, it would be a good choice.

Using external viewfinders with wide-angles is not too much of a pain as DOF is generous: When I use my 28 or 21mm, I rarely use the rangefinder. I prefer to set the distance directly on the barrel taking the DOF and the location of the main subject in account.
