larry n.
Another Nikon lens hood question! Nikon makes a lens hood "for polarizing filters." The 77mm size is called HN-34. I don't understand the purpose of this lens hood. Does it work with any lens that has a polarizing filter? Doesn't seem possible. That's why I'm puzzled. Thanks! curt wiler
The Nikon polarizing filters have oversized front rings to avoid vignetting (e.g. the ring on the front of the polarizer will be larger than 77mm). Thus, you need the hood made for the filter. However, depending on the lens, Nikon may not recommend using any hood. The HN-26 for 62mm, for instance, is actually two pieces and you use both, one, or none depending on the focal length.
larry n.
Thanks, Curt. Do you know how to find out what Nikon recommends for specific lenses?
