hugh_sakols
The epson 2450 does not have dust removal software. Would using Vuescan with this flatbed scanner solve this problem? Is it easy enough to use? All I want to do is scan and import into photoshop. Also I own a Canon FS4000. From what I have learned on this forum Vuescan will allow me to run OS X. I'd appreciate any comments regarding Vuescan and these scanne
s._fisher
Isn't dust removal usually in hardware? Nikon and the sort use an infrared scan to detect & remove dust: http://andreas.rick.free.fr/sane/dustremove.html

I use Vuescan and haven't seen it remove dust for me. You might need to be handy with compressed air and a scratch removal tool in Photodraw or Paint Shop Pro.
william_john_smith
VueScan removes dust using the 2450. Go to Filter tab and use one of three Infrared clean settings:light, medium or heavy. Does a fairly good job. Of course it only works on color. I'm using VueScan with OSX with Epson 2450, Epson 636 and Nikon LS4000 without any problems, well worth the $40. Hence Vuescan can't do any IR cleaning on the 2450 (unless I missed something...)
noshir_patel
Forget software dust removal. Get a Staticmaster brush (1 inch wide or 3 inch wide depending on your film format... I have both). A couple of quick swipes of both sides of the film, and you just don't have to worry about it. Maybe you'll have a dust spot or two, but it's easily removed in PhotoShop and very often I have none. eddie g.
The light, medium or heavy settings under filter tab is for grain reduction. Don't think Vuescan has dust removal option.
william_john_smith
It has two tabs, "Infrared clean" and "Grain reduction" Each tab has light, medium and heavy.
Robin Smith
I don't find manual dust removal a problem in the 2450 if you look after your negs and scanner carefully. Dust removal does not work via Vuescan on the 2450 as there is no IR channel. Robin Smith
