Epson Print Academy - Comments?

Recommended Posts

I received a flier in the mail today for a half-day seminar called

the "Epson Print Academy". It is being held in 27 locations

throughout the US, and locally for me (in Houston) on Nov 9th. The

tag line is "Learn the techniques the pros use to get spectacular

digital prints".

What do people think of the worth of this seminar? My concern is

whether it will have real value for me as an intermediate amateur, or

will be just a sales pitch for Epson products. Any experience of

this elsewhere, or opinions on what it will be like? The cost is $39.

Thanks!

Doug

It's probably not much more than a glorified sales pitch. I've not been to one, however when they come on campus they go over how to get really good prints, blah blah blah. Most of it you'll hear here over and over. They'll tell you that 300dpi on the file and set on the printer is all you'll need (they told us that). It might be interesting to go just to see what's up, but whether it's worth $40 to you I don't know. Hopefully someone has been to one of these and can share.

Well - I went to the seminar on Saturday morning, and can report that it was highly worthwhile. I can say this confidently, because for a $39 registration fee, I won the draw for a new Epson Stylus Photo 2200! Lucky $#@!%$*!!

Other than that, I would genuinely recommend this to all but the most cynical in the community. There is quite a lot of Epson-centric product celebration, but it's not objectionable and the information content is actually quite high. If you are already making good progress with color-management, basic Photoshop and printing, then you are not going to learn a lot to make you technically better. I picked up some interesting Photoshop tips. Mostly, though, it's interesting background on the 'digital photography revolution' and it gives some sense of excitement on the possibilities and the extent to which prominent photographers are switching to inkjet.

Quite enjoyable, and how about winning that printer?
