Want to change my email address

I am looking for some help with my photo.net account. I have tried

the website email several times and their phone answering machine, but

all have gone without a response (I wonder if this site is still being

staffed?)

My problem is that about a month ago, I changed my email address. I

used to use pacbell.net and now I use earthlink.net. I have updated

the "my workspace" area, but my "sphar@photo.net" address still

forwards mail to my old email address.

Can anyone help me, or get a message to the photo.net staff so they

can help me? I will be closing my pacbell.net account soon and don't

want to lose email.

Thanks

Steve Sphar

Well, posting in this forum is usually a good thing to get the staff's attention. As far as I know, members cannot directly update their @photo.net aliases. I will contact Brian (Editor-in-Chief) to see if I can be of some help (I have server access and I think I know how this works, but obviously I'm not going to mess about).

Steve, one suggestion - for the future, is to use a free email service for all

your photo.net mail : i.e. keep it separate from work and personal mail where

your address might change from time-to-time.

I've seen your posts before concerning your inability to contact photo.net,

and their lack of response to emails and your telephone messages.....

A few months ago photo.net asked for volunteers to help with a number of

administrative tasks - literally thousands of hours per week were offered by

members ranging from IT assistance to verifying the existence of suspect

account holders.......the thread fizzled out, before I could offer my 30 hours

per month, gratis - whilst continuing to support the site financially.

I'm not surprised you're frustrated.

Paul, the option you are referring to is to change the email address that you use to log in. photo.net subscribers ("patrons") can select a "vanity @photo.net" email address, which is really just an alias forwarding mail to your real email address. In my case, pmj@photo.net forwards to patrick@company-name-deleted.nl. Steve would like to be able to update the address the alias points to, which may be needed if you change employer or ISP.

At this moment, that is not possible (except by sending mail to the Editor-in-Chief and hoping he's got a minute to spare). However, Brian and I are currently exchanging emails on how to improve this. So, please hang on a bit :-)

Thanks Patrick, you have summed up my problem precisely. I did not know it would be difficult for photo.net to change the address that the alias points to. It seems to me that this would be a necessary part of offering a photo.net email address. If I have caused inconvenience to you or photo.net staff, I didn't mean to!

I don't change my email address often. I had pacbell.net for seven years, in fact, I was a beta tester for them. But the junk email just got to be too much. I would receive 30 spam emails for every real email, so I had to change.

I really appreciate your help. In order to make my photo.net address useful, I have to be able to change the address it points to because I am changing my ISP. Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Steve - this MIGHT be an option. Go to your workspace, I think if you're on a

PC you right click : on a Mac I simply hold down the mouse and click "check

source" : in my instance this is part of what's displayed (I'm omitting codes for

security reasons)

....sevensturt@photo.net....which forwards to.....sevensturt@hotmail.com...

You might need authorisation....then again, I wonder if you can't simply

change it yourself?

Seven, what you are referring to is the output of the program that runs on the photo.net server. By changing (the local copy of) that output, you do not actually change anything in the database or the mail configuration of photo.net.
