david enzel
I am interested in early impressions of this new lens. I normally stay away from consumer lenses but thought this might make a good travel lens for traveling light with an F100. I already have the 28- 70 2.8 AF-S. I am very happy with the optial quality of the lens but it is not a good lens for walking around Paris or wherever. I thought this new lens with a 50 f1.4 in my pocket might work well for travel. Any thoughts? Is the quality good enough to enlarge to 16x20?
paul beiser
Try: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/2485afs.htm and: http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2_PC.html for a couple of views. I have been using this lens on my D100 and F100, and my files/slides have been excellent in terms of sharpness and color. I have not enlarged to 16x20, but I done up to 8x12. chuck
high sharpness, high contrast, moderately high autofocus speed, moderately high built quality, rather annoying level of distortion.
patrick_davies1
I use this lens on my F100. I'm satisfied with the overall quality. I'm thrilled that it is so quiet. The auto-focus speed is noticeably faster than my 28-105. 80% of my use of this lens is indoors with electronic flash. It focuses well in low light. I've been happy with the results, but I stay away from the 24mm end of the lens. I have not done very much outdoor, bright sun photography with this lens. I typically use prime lenses or my 28-105mm outside.
